Lycra and Circle Dances – a joined up approach to Early Years music leadership

In the first of our Skills Sharing sessions, early years music leaders Alison Blunt, Sonya Prentice and Trish Power joined together with world music leaders Fariborz Kiani and Ibrahim Colak to learn about each others approaches to teaching music and sharing cultural traditions.  Funded by the National Foundation for Youth Music, the World Beaters team are designing a programme of activities to support Kurdish, Turkish and Iranian families to engage in early years musical play.  Our sessions kicked off with 100 games to play with a piece of lycra, an introduction to the stories of the Shahnameh and a celebratory Kurdish circle dance celebrating Newroz.  Material developed in our skills sharing sessions will form the basis of Sharing Lunches and workshop sessions at Rustam School, Halkevi Centre and  Princess May Nursery and Primary School in January 2014.  Watch this space to see how our we progress!
