About our Founders

World Beaters was founded by Lydia Batchelor and Sophie Mathias in 2001.  Beginning as a pilot project for Slough nurseries funded by the Slough Music Service, World Beaters quickly developed to run projects in early years settings and primary schools  in Slough, Reading and London.  In February 2018, as Sophie departed to work for the Big Lottery Fund,  Lydia has led the organisation.

Strands of our work such as our Sharing Lunch programme have developed through exploration of our personal differences and similarities in our community-based values.  We have set up World Beaters to celebrate and explore diversity.
Our company is BME-led and we continue to employ practitioners who are eager to share their expertise and open to new ideas.
